CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Experts say more than 80% of women will develop cellulite in their lifetime and most will spend time, money, and energy fighting that unflattering flab. Now, there may be simpler way to ditch those derriere dimples by simply wearing a pair of jeans.
Wrangler, the original tough guys of denim, are going girlie. They've wrangled up something on the softer side: jeans infused with aloe, caffeine and retinol.
The folks at Wrangler say their new denim spa jeans are designed to smooth and banish cellulite. They back-up that claim with a French study in which the majority of women who wore the jeans for eight hours a day, five days a week, for six weeks reported smoother skin.
But, some experts say a tush-tightening trouser treatment like this won't have long term results.
"The problem with cellulite is that it's a structural thing," says Dermatologist Dr. Michael Maris. "If you just bath the skin in some type of moisturizing cream it's going to look smoother. The issue is the next day when you don't have that moisturizing agent on there, it's gonna be back to where it was to begin with."
You can't penetrate any kind of topical agent through the skin enough effect that structural change that's below the surface of skin," Dr. Maris adds.
Experts say you'll need to go more than skin-deep to cut the cottage cheese. FDA approved procedures like "Cellulaze" use a laser to permanently slice the fibers under your skin that cause dimpling.
Of course, the real bottom line for your bottom line may be the difference in cost. It costs thousands of dollars for a procedure compared to the cost of a pair of jeans—though, you must wear those jeans five days a week.
The jeans can be washed, but that will reduce any effectiveness unless treated with a reloading spray. Experts warn that wearing dirty jeans can lead to infections.
The Wrangler denim spa jeans are available online through a European website and also online at Sears.
