ELK RIVER, Minn. (KMSP) -
Shortly before 3 p.m., the Elk River Police Department announced that a missing 16-year-old girl who was reported as a runaway on Feb. 12 has been found safe.
Investigators did not immediately offer additional details.
Family members posted fliers explaining that Johannah Mary Thomsen met left the family's home with an unidentified person she may have met online.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension issued a statewide alert on Thursday.
Within the past two weeks, friends and family members have received electronic communications they believe came from Thomsen.
Police stressed that they had no indication that Thomsen was in imminent danger during the search.
