SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Glen Hilton was on his way home on M-5 near Ten Mile in Farmington when he said he hit a patch of ice, lost control and landed in the median.  When he tried to get out, the snowy slush turned into a muddy mess.

He wasn't there very long before Mark Bartley and his girlfriend, Vanessa Rogers, stopped to help.  It is something they said they do every time they see flashing lights, someone stranded or in distress.

"Make sure that they're okay and help out if we can because those are the things you always hope that if you were in that situation somebody would do it for you," said Rogers.

"He's dug himself quite a hole, and I can't seem to rock him out of it," said Bartley.

However, the good Samaritans didn't give up and continued working with Hilton to try and get his car free.

"I really appreciate it.  If I had some money, I'd give them all the money out of my pocket right now," Hilton said.

They didn't want his money.  It's just something they do.  Squinting to avoid the snow blowing straight into his face, Bartley gave us this simple reason why.

"Why not?  I've had people stop and help me.  Why not stop and help others.  It's just common courtesy," he said.

A few minutes later a tow truck came by and this helpful couple got on their way keeping their eyes open for the next motorist that might just need their help.
