Halvorson concedes, says PAC money played a role

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson has conceded in the Democratic primary to replace ex-US Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., saying it's clear that outside money played a role.

Halvorson said Tuesday night that she's called the primary election winner, former state legislator Robin Kelly.

Halvorson tells the Associated Press it's clear that money poured into the campaign by New York City Michael Bloomberg's super PAC affected the race.

The PAC spent $2 million on anti-gun ads targeting Halvorson for her position on gun control, including her opposition to a ban on assault weapons. Kelly is a strong supporter of gun control and supports such a ban.

Halvorson says she doesn't know what she'll do next.
