Forest Gump said ‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get'. Mr. Gump's statement would perfectly sum up the season for the Gophers men's basketball squad. After starting the season 17-1 and rising all the way to number eight in the rankings, the wheels have completely come off.
Since their 17th win on January 9th in Champaign against Illinois, the Gophers have gone 3-8. Tonight, the Gophers host the team that derailed a promising season, the number one ranked Indiana Hoosiers.
The Gophers have the opportunity to put the past two months behind them only if they can somehow defeat the top ranked Hoosiers.
"The one thing I keep telling them is ‘hey guys it's your team'," said head coach Tubby Smith. "We've got five seniors on this team and it's time for them to step up and take ownership."
It won't be easy. In the history of the program, the Gophers are 3-18 when they face the top ranked team in the country. In the first meeting on January 12th, the Gophers fell behind early and made a furious comeback falling just short. They can't have a lapse offensively if they are going to spring the upset and knock off the Hoosiers.
