ROCHESTER, Mich. (WJBK) -
23-year-old Andrew Singler of Rochester was a senior at Michigan State University just a couple months shy of graduation. Police have said he was stabbed to death at his apartment in Meridian Township early Saturday morning.
18-year-old Conner McCowan of Okemos is now charged with his murder. According to relatives, McCowan is the brother of Singler's girlfriend.
Singler's parents and four siblings were too distraught to go on camera, but his brother, Ryane Johnson, shared this on social media.
"My brother was the most charismatic, funny, heart warming, gentle, foolish, giving person that will impact my life and my family's forever. The smiles he created are unforgettable. He was 23 years old and had so much life to live."
Even though Singler graduated in 2008, the staff at Stoney Creek High School still remembers him and the bright future he had ahead.
"He's such a good example of a typical Rochester product from Stoney Creek where they're just good citizens and good children for their parents and they're connected to their school and they're faithful to their friends, so Andrew certainly fit all those," said principal Larry Goralski as he remembered the young man voted best laugh in his high school yearbook.
Singler was a soccer player in high school, a huge sports fan and all around good guy, who reportedly wanted to become a pediatric dentist.
"He was easy going. He was nice, and he was thoughtful," Goralski added. "His years here were incredible. It sounds like he was a great son for his family. I want everyone to know our thoughts and prayers from the whole Stoney Creek community goes out to Andrew and his family."
There will be viewings on Tuesday for Singler at
Pixley Funeral Home, which is located at 322 West University Drive in Rochester, from 2:00 to 4:00 and
6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at 620 Romeo Street in Rochester.
