Chicago State University President Wayne Watson is stepping down amid controversy.

Watson, the former Chancellor of City Colleges, was hired in 2009. He had a rocky time getting faculty on board with his plans.

Now, there's word that he was in a romantic relationship with a school employee.

The official statement from Chicago State University is that Watson is going on a one-year sabbatical and then will retire.

Watson was being paid $250,000 a year and had another year left on his contract.
