An entire community gathered Sunday to welcome home a South Jersey native who returned from a deployment in Afghanistan.
First Lt. Frank C. Broomell, who grew up in Sicklerville, was greeted by friends, family and neighbors during a welcome home celebration Sunday afternoon.
The celebration continued at a bowling alley, as Broomell and his family took part in the Operation Yellow Ribbon of South Jersey's bowling fundraiser.
"This young man's dedication to our country servers as an example to us all, Freeholder Ed McDonnell said in a statement. McDonnell is the liaison to the Camden County Division of Veterans affairs.
Broomell's service continues a family tradition of service that started with his grandfather Alex Mastrando, who was a Corporal in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean war from 1953-1955.
We stay unsettled through the first half of Saturday. Cooler air moves in late weekend with a nice stretch of weather beginning Sunday.
There may be some showers around tonight as we stay mostly cloudy and humid. Clouds hang on Saturday with some early rain but it'll turn much cooler and less humid throughout the day. High temperatures will only be in the low to mid 70s.
The sun returns for the second half of the weekend with a breezy and nice Sunday. Temperatures slowly warm next week as we enjoy days of sunshine and pleasant late summer weather.
