CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
If there's anything that embodies hope, it is unequivocally and undeniably spring training. Hope springs eternal in the hearts and minds of baseball players and fans alike.
John Danks is once again leading the charge for your Chicago White Sox. The star pitcher is a guy who has a heart as big as his home state of Texas!
This is the 5th year for big John to step up and help St. Baldrick's help kids fight cancer. His 5-year-old cousin Cooper is a cancer survivor. So this is a no brainer, no header to him.
He shaved his head in solidarity with children currently battling cancer, as well as other local students shaving their heads and raising money for them.
Fate threw FOX 32's Patrick Elwood a curve ball in Arizona, when after a couple swipes of John's head, he quickly realized that the clippers he brought from home but did not stand the test. They were dull – 100 heads already shaved – dull!
Even John's buddy fellow pitcher Chris Sale - who jumped in as my reliever - had to poke a little fun. But to his credit, cool hand John was cool with it! A short 25 minutes later, his head was shaved clean and as good as new.
Before they parted ways, the Sale and Danks gave a few pitching tips for the kids back home.
"Just have fun," they said. "Together, we can make a difference."
