CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Elaine Cook and her boyfriend of 10 months went out last week for Valentine's Day, returned to her apartment and got in a fight.
She asked him to leave, but he wanted to end the argument. So he leaned in for a kiss.
And that's when she bit his tongue off, prosecutors said.
Now the 51-year-old Cook, of the 9400 block of Lockwood in Skokie, is charged with aggravated domestic battery and was held Sunday in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Assistant State's Attorney Eve Reilly said the couple went back to Cook's apartment after going out Friday and began to quarrel. Reilly said Cook's boyfriend went to put his shoes on after Cook asked him to leave.
Then the boyfriend said they should stop fighting, Reilly said. He went to kiss her, Reilly said, but Cook "bit off a large portion of his tongue."
Cook's boyfriend ran to a sink in the kitchen, Reilly said, and Cook followed and threw the tongue on a counter. The boyfriend put it in a bag of ice, Reilly said, and he and Cook's roommate called 911.
An ambulance took the boyfriend to Evanston Hospital, Reilly said, but doctors could not reattach the tongue because of an inadequate blood supply.
