FDA warns of fake flu meds

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Food and Drug Administration says some herbal supplement companies are making bogus claims about their ability to fight the flu.

The FDA sent letters to nine internet distributors ordering them to immediately cease marketing their herbal products as flu remedies. The warning covers products including Resveratrol, Garlic, Echinacea, Elderberry, Ashwagandha, and Astragalus Immune System Support.

The FDA says there are no over-the-counter products that shorten or diminish the severity of the flu.
