Queens residents digging out from blizzard

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The borough of Queens didn't get hit quite as bad but people did spend the morning cleaning up.

Shoveling, shoveling and more shoveling.

Around Queens, everyone was digging out after last night's blizzard.

But instead of a shovel, we found one man using something a little more high-tech - clearing roadways with his quad.

"There's a lot of old people here and my family has a few houses on this block, so rather than break our back, we use this monster."

Queens was hit especially hard by the blizzard of 2010 and residents say many of their streets were neglected by the city for days, making them impassable and dangerous. Fox 5 asked some people how things seemed this time around.

"No comparison. This is good, excellent -- before, total nightmare."

"Everybody was trying to clear the streets and clear the situation better this year."

As a whole, Mayor Bloomberg says the city dodged a bullet compared to other areas.

By the afternoon, many streets were clear.

"We had 2,200 pieces of equipment and virtually all streets have been plowed," said Mayor Bloomberg.
