While the manhunt continues for ex-LAPD cop turned accused cop killer, Christopher Dorner, we're taking a different look at that massive, detailed and bitter manifesto that he's left behind.
Man people are looking at his writing, studying it for clues, and understanding if there is such a thing.
One person taking a closer look is Joe Navarro, an ex-police officer who became one of the youngest agents recruited to the FBI. He spent more than 25 years as a counterintelligence agent catching spies.
Navarro, who we spoke to by phone, says he believes that Dorner is a very flawed individual with personality and character disorders; that he has an overvaluation of self and devalues others.
Basically, he's a pathological narcissist, Navarro says.
"It's amazing
how much is in the manifesto," he told FOX 11. "One gets a sense about his personality and his
character, and we begin to sense that this individual is very ego-centric, very
narcissistic; has a high sense of himself, a high sense of entitlement."
The narcissistic
personality tells us the trajectory of events is potentially more dramatic and
spectacular and could lead to many more people getting hurt, he added.
"He addresses
the letter to America, he talked about 'most of you,' that what he is going to
do is a 'necessary evil,' and this is very much a part of aggressive
narcissism, so it does tell us about his mind set," he said.
He also compares Dorner to another infamous criminal -- the unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. He believes that both men see themselves as perfect and having all the right answers; that violence is the only justifiable remedy for those who don't subscribe to their view.
"What throws him into the special realm of dangerous personalities is the fact that he is a wound collector," Navarro said. "He sees social slights, indifference, human imperfections, diversity and catalogs them and nourishes those wounds ... so that he can justify his actions."
Navarro goes on to say that authorities are going to figure out where his comfort zone, where are potential targets, and find out if he is
anywhere near his comfort zone, or has the investigation forced him into an
area that was maybe unanticipated.
