Debra Giller bought a 2003 Dodge caravan, only to learn a
few days later she had been sold a stolen vehicle.
And now this mother is left without a car to take her three
grandchildren to and from school, but also without a car to take herself to and
from medical appointments. She is battling stage 4 bone cancer.
She spotted the van on Craigslist. It was listed for $2,500
with 103,000 miles on it. She went with her son to meet the seller, who said her
name was Madison, at a gas station to check out the van.
Her son, Adam, took it for a test spin. He was impressed,
and thought it was a perfect vehicle for her. He even got the seller to drop
the price to $2,400, and the sale was complete.
Madison
even wrote a receipt giving a 30-day money back guarantee if anything goes
wrong.
But Giller was not expecting this to go wrong. When she went
to put insurance on the van, she made the unfortunate discovery.
"It's horrible. It's totally horrible. To take your money, I
mean, I'm sick. My money goes for doctors," she told Fox 2's Ron Savage.
The insurance company confirmed with police that the van
was stolen. The Livonia Police took her title and towed the van.
Now, she's out $2,400 and has nothing to drive.
Her son Adam says, "I really want to find this person. I don't
know how someone could actually do that, take your money. I even explained to
the woman over the phone that my mom's not in the greatest health, and we're looking
for a vehicle that's really reliable."
If you have any information about the vehicle, contact
Livonia Police.
The gas station where the group met up does have outside surveillance cameras.
