New CHOP Center Opens In West Philly

Posted: Updated:

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia celebrated the grand opening of their new Primary Care Center in West Philadelphia with a ribbon cutting and plaque dedication Wednesday.

Nicholas and Athena Karabots donated their names and $7.5 million to the new $27 million, 52,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility. The center will give the West Philadelphia community convenient access to cutting-edge pediatric health care and community programming.

The center plans to accommodate over 64,000 out-patient visits annually and will also be home to programs such as Reach Out and Read and the Homeless Health Initiative, hospital administrators said.

The CHOP centers at 39th and Chestnut Streets and 3550 Market Street will relocate to the Karabots Center, but the existing Pediatric and Adolescent Care Centers in South Philadelphia and Cobbs Creek will remain in their current locations.
