Lamont Stroud and Richard Slater are brothers, and they were recognized by the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday for their efforts to save the Glass family from their burning home.

A pair of Good Samaritans were honored for their attempts to save a Rockdale County family from a tragic house fire. Four children died in the blaze at the Conyers home back in January, and their mother, who was badly burned, spoke publicly for the first time at Tuesday's ceremony.
Lamont Stroud and Richard Slater are brothers, and they were recognized by the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday for their efforts to save the family from the burning home. The four children, ages 9 months to 9 years old, died in upstairs bedrooms. Their mother and grandmother escaped, but mother suffered very serious burns.
Tuesday was declared Lamont Stroud and Richard Slater Appreciation Day, and the men were presented with framed proclamations by the board.
While Stroud and Slater were humble and said they didn't feel they deserved their awards, the children's mother didn't agree. Reba Glass spoke for the first time publicly since she was released from the hospital. She was burned over 40 percent of her body in the fire.
Glass wanted to thank the brothers for trying to save her children.
"Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and there's nothing in the world I wouldn't do for them. Nothing," said Glass.
Glass also thanked the Rockdale County community for their support since the tragedy.
