SANFORD, FL -

Dozens of people took to the streets Tuesday in a call for peace on the day Trayvon Martin would have turned 18-years-old.

Martin was shot and killed last year. George Zimmerman, the man accused of killing him, says he shot the teenager in self-defense.

At a hearing Tuesday, a judge denied his request to postpone the start of the trial, which is scheduled to begin in June. Zimmerman's attorney previously requested the trial be moved back to November.

A memorial was held for Martin outside of the courtroom, where supporters sang "happy birthday" and released balloons.
