The newspaper reported that the ATF operation was robbed of $35,000 in merchandise, an agent's machine gun was stolen and a document listing undercover agents was left behind. Several key members of Congress are demanding answers.
ATF spokeswoman Ginger Colbrun told the Journal Sentinel the agency is reviewing the operation.
Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin joined other congressional members from both parties is demanding accountability. In her letter to Acting ATF Director B. Todd Jones, Baldwin repeatedly admonished the ATF for a "failed operation" in Milwaukee.
The House committee that investigated the botched "Fast and Furious" operation plans to look into this one, called "Fearless Distributing," and see what Jones knew about it.
This is the latest in a string of controversies facing Jones' nomination to be the new head of the ATF.
