NAPERVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Pamela D. Greco told Naperville police someone stole her identity and used it to pay an expensive natural gas bill.
Police say she's full of hot air.
The 43-year-old Greco lives on the 1100 block of Spring Garden Circle, in the Mansions of Naperville condominium complex near Ogden Mall on the city's far northeast side. She is free on bond and awaiting trial in DuPage County Circuit Court on a misdemeanor charge of attempted disorderly conduct/filing a false crime report.
Greco in mid-January went to Naperville police and filed a report, saying she had been the victim of identity theft. Sgt. Lou Cammiso said Greco claimed "someone used her identity to obtain natural gas service through NICOR," leaving her responsible for payment of a bill that exceeded $500.
Cammiso said Greco told police "she was not responsible for (the bill) because she did not live at the address" where the NICOR service was provided. "Investigation into the incident revealed that she did, in fact, live there, and she made up the ID theft (allegation) to try and get out of paying the bill," Cammiso said in an e-mail.
Greco in February 2009 was one of nearly 600 men and women arrested in 29 U.S. cities as part of an FBI anti-prostitution initiative. She and a woman from Berwyn were arrested and charged with prostitution in the Iroquois Club condominium complex at 1101 Iroquois Ave., not far from where she lives.
She pleaded guilty in August 2009 to a reduced, misdemeanor charge of attempting to obstruct justice using evidence and false information, according to court records. A DuPage County judge placed her on a year of court supervision and fined her $357 in that matter.
Greco surrendered Jan. 23 at the Naperville police station in the false crime report case. She is scheduled to appear Feb. 26 in court.
