MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Minneapolis firefighters battled the cold while rescuing two people and two dogs from a house fire overnight.

The fire started around 2 a.m. Friday on the 3800 block of Elliott Avenue S.

When firefighters arrived, the homeowners and their dogs were on the roof of the home. They were rescued and evaluated for injuries and cold exposure at the scene.

The homeowners and their dogs are now staying with friends and family.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the first floor of the home, but there is smoke damage throughout the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
