A Minnesota woman is accused of giving her 12-year-old daughter heroin on a consistent enough basis for the girl to be hospitalized for withdrawal symptoms.
The 37-year-old woman who was arrested while shoplifting at the Mall of America with her 12-year-old daughter has pleaded guilty to drug charges alleging she gave the girl heroin.
Rebecca Rachelle Hill pleaded guilty to a second-degree controlled substance crime and is expected to be sentenced to 48 months in prison on Feb. 12. Charges of child endangerment, motor vehicle theft and providing false information to police have been dropped.
Hill was living out of her car at the time of her arrest, and the criminal complaint states she was arrested by Bloomington police after she was caught stealing clothes with the girl. She was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and the girl was allowed to leave with her grandmother.
Police say the girl's father called police and said the child had been taken to the hospital because she was suffering from withdrawal. The girl told her father Hill had given her marijuana and heroin regularly over the course of three weeks.
The girl has since successfully recovered but is continuing treatment while living with her father and stepmother.
