Phillies Sign Infielder Betancourt To Minor League Contract

PHILADELPHIA -

The Philadelphia Phillies signed 30-year-old infielder Yuniesky Betancourt to a minor league contract Monday.

Betancourt spent the last season with the Kansas City Royals, where he hit .228 with 14 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 36 RBI in 57 games.

After the regular season, the Phillies say he batted .308 with eight doubles, seven home runs and 22 RBI in 26 games with Aguilas de Mexicali in the Mexican Winter League.

The Cuba native has hit .266 with 203 doubles, 28 triples, 67 home runs and 411 RBI in 1,019 games between the Seattle Mariners, Royals and Milwaukee Brewers.
