ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KMSP) -

St. Cloud police used pepper spray to disperse a crowd of 40 to 50 people that surrounded an officer trying to break-up a fight outside McRudy's Bar early Sunday morning.

According to St. Cloud police, an officer physically separated two men fighting outside McRudy's around 2 a.m. Sunday. The men involved in the fight were identified as 22-year-old Marvin Matthews and 22-year-old Jeffrey Bias II.

Matthews told FOX 9 he was just rough-housing with his roommate when he felt someone grab him from behind and reacted. According to the police report, Matthews and the officer went to the ground and were surrounded by a crowd, with some people pulling at the officer's jacket.

Assisting officers used pepper-spray to break-up the crowd and help with the arrest. The two men involved in the initial incident were charged with disorderly conduct.

The officer was not injured.
