Football fans rejoice! Atlanta is one step closer to being home to the College Football Hall of Fame.
Monday was the first day of construction on the $66.5 million project.
The hall of fame will be built on the site currently known as the "Green Lot" of the Georgia World Congress Center
The lot was closed off and construction equipment was brought in.
Project managers were on hand to oversee the groundbreaking and say they are thrilled to be relocating the College Football Hall of Fame from Indiana to Atlanta.
"Atlanta just provides a bigger stage. We've got millions of people coming here to go to conventions at the Congress Center and just as tourists in our city, not to mention all the football fans that come here every year," said John Stephenson of Atlanta Hall Management.
It will include historic and contemporary artifacts, multimedia displays, children's activities, and a theatre to show a film on the history and excitement of college football.
The hall of fame is expected to be completed in about 18 months.
