COON RAPIDS, Minn. (KMSP) -
A water main ruptured in a Coon Rapids, Minn. neighborhood late Tuesday night, shooting water 15 feet in the air.
Crews told FOX 9 the pipe ruptured at about 10 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of 122nd Avenue and Partridge Street, cutting off water service to the neighborhood. The area was covered with ice and sand that was blasted from the hole under extreme pressure.
City utility workers quickly shut-off water in the area and started pumping out water much of the night so they could locate the leak, repair it and fill the hole.
It's second water main break in Coon Rapids in the past 24 hours. The first happened at about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. In that case, crews say they were digging by 7 a.m. and had water service restored by mid-morning.
Since this latest water main break happened at 10 p.m., crews were able to get it repaired and cleaned-up by the 6 a.m. hour -- before many people had to wake-up and go to work Wednesday morning.
