Metro Transit officials confirm a collision between a commercial truck and a light rail train in downtown Minneapolis caused a service disruption for nearly an hour on Tuesday.
According to Public Relations Manager John Siqveland, the crash occurred at about 1:35 p.m. at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 5th Street.
Tracks were blocked in both directions for about 50 minutes, but trains were operating again by 2:30 p.m. Replacement bus service was put in place briefly between Target Field and downtown.
The train was empty at the time, and the operator was not injured. That person will undergo standard drug and alcohol testing following the crash.
The truck driver was not injured, but one passenger was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Siqveland said he was able to walk to the ambulance.
Both the truck and train were able to drive away from the scene, but the investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
