Hostage standoff ends peacefully in southwest Atlanta

ATLANTA -
A SWAT standoff ended peacefully Sunday afternoon in southwest Atlanta.
Officer responded to reports of a woman being held at knifepoint at the home on Corvair Drive.
Police say Jermaine Parker was holding his girlfriend and a child hostage. SWAT and hostage negotiators talked the man into releasing the child. Police then were able to rescue the woman.
They later took Parker in custody and charged him with kidnapping and aggravated assault. His first court appearance is Tuesday at 11 a.m.

After bonding out on a 15-count criminal indictment, DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis denied any wrongdoing, saying "I've done nothing wrong."
