PHOENIX -
One of the largest gun shows in the state kicked off this weekend, but that wasn't the only gathering for gun enthusiasts. Hundreds of people turned Saturday into gun appreciation day.
Crossroads of the West Gun Show at the Arizona State Fairgrounds is a huge draw every year.
Saturday, thanks in large part to the president's recent focus on gun control, those looking to buy and sell guns and ammo turned out by the thousands, some waited in line for five hours.
"He's got everybody scared and everybody's going to make sure they've got whatever they've got before the laws change," said Don Fraser, a gun owner.
No loaded guns are allowed at the gun show, so many gun owners headed to the State Capitol to celebrate Gun Appreciation Day.
Hundreds filled the plaza between the senate and house buildings to protest any efforts by the federal government to ban certain types of guns and ammunition, citing the Second Ammendment over and over again.
"Somehow we think by making another law that's somehow gonna resolve the issue, I just don't think that's the way to go," said Duarte Pinheiro, a gun owner.
"You start with guns and you go to, okay, we're going to start banning cigarettes and then we start banning red meat. Who's the one to sit there cause they all kill people, cars kill people, cars kill more people every year than guns do, so who's going to say we're going to take this from you," said Chad Cecil, a gun owner.
Speakers addressed the crowd and the consistent cry from the group: they will not comply with any gun control measures from the government.
"You know they're completely unrealistic. They don't live in the real world...I know plenty of people that have had their lives saved by owning a gun, or even just by displaying that they owned a gun, and it's not their right to take that away from us. They cannot take that away from us," said Brenna Harmless, a gun owner.
The group Guns Across America is taking credit for organizing the events through social media, which took place at State Capitols across the country.
