American Airlines unveiled a new look Thursday. What's the big deal? We could be seeing a lot of it here in Phoenix if American merges with valley-based US Airways.
American Airlines released video showing off its new paint scheme, complete with a new logo.
The red, white and blue stripes along the fuselage are gone, and the tail is painted to represent an American flag.
The updated paint scheme will show up on American's new Boeing 7-77's that go into service at the end of the month.
American's pilots and flight attendants unions both talked about a possible merger with US Airways when talking about the new look.
From the pilots: "American's network needs more than cosmetic changes to compete with Delta and United. Simply put, it needs to merge with US Airways."
From the flight attendants: "We hope this re-branding is the first of many steps toward making American Airlines a company that we can be proud to work for and one that can grow and compete in today's marketplace. That can only happen with a merger inside bankruptcy."
US Airways, of course, has been pushing for a merger with American ever since it went into bankruptcy last year.
If the two merge, it would create the largest airline in the U.S.
