Cook Co. judge orders MWRD to pay $36M to condo developers

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

FOX 32 has learned exclusively that Cook County taxpayers may have to shell out even more money thanks to a fight over a tiny downtown alley.

A Cook County judge has ordered the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District to pay $36 million to the developers of a luxury Michigan Avenue condo building.

The building's developers sued the district after it refused to allow construction crews into a small alley bordering its headquarters.

The developers say that delayed the project and cost them $66 million when the real estate market tanked.

The water reclamation district is expected to appeal the ruling.
