Facebook Graph Search: What's the big deal?

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

Facebook made a big announcement Tuesday that will make it easier to find information on Facebook.

Graph Search will give users an easier way to find pictures of friends, reviews on restaurants your friends like or didn't like, friends who like certain TV shows or movies, and other information.

For example, you could do searches such as:

"photos of my friends taken in Paris, France"

OR as a recruiting tool: "people who have been product managers and who have been founders."

OR for making a new connection after you meet someone but don't remember their last name. If you meet someone named Chris – you type "people named Chris who are friends of Lars and went to Stanford University."

OR search "Photos of me and Seth Kaplan" and all pictures of me and you will be pulled up.

OR for historical events, search "photos of Berlin, Germany from 1989", and it calls up 100 photos that are public, not just from friends, showing powerful pictures from the "wall" coming down.

Facebook has released a test version of Graph Search, enabling people to find information through the filter of their friends.
