Falcons fans seek respect

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Some Atlanta Falcons fans say that the team doesn't get enough respect from sportswriters, analysts and other fans nationwide. They also say that the hate can be motivating.

Just a few minutes after the Falcons nail-biting win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, commentators were already dogging Atlanta and the matchup between the Falcons and 49ers this weekend.

"Now you look and say, 49ers to Atlanta and I would say right now, 49ers would have to be a heavily favored football team in that game," said FOX commentator Terry Bradshaw.

At 680 the Fan, host John Kincade said he hears the respect complaint from callers all the time:

"Last week we heard a lot about the Seattle Seahawks, even the national media, there was a lot of buzz about Seattle being the hot team. But you know what, the Falcons went out and did what they had to do and they won. It didn't matter. All that talk didn't matter," said Kincade.

But Mac Lawson, who has been a Falcons fan his whole life, says he does cares.

"It's frustrating but the fans are really used to it because they've always been down on the Falcons, you know what I mean. Always," said Lawson.

So as the Falcons go to the NFC Championship, fans who are still at a fever pitch after Sunday's game say they look forward to earning the respect they believe will come with a trip to the Super Bowl.
