NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police say they arrested two men for an arson that occurred on Monday, September 10, on Long Island.

The two suspects, 19-year-old Reginald Summers and 29-year-old Harry Gardner entered 150 Washington Avenue and attempted to burglarize an apartment in the building. Authorities say after not being able to gain access to the apartment, the suspects poured an accelerant on the door mat of a different apartment and ignited it.

The fire caused minor damage to the door and was extinguished by the Hempstead Fire Department. There were no injuries and detectives obtained surveillance video of the suspects which led to their arrests.

Summers was arrested at his home on January 1 and was charged with Arson 2nd degree and Burglary 2nd degree.

Gardner was arrested on January 11 and was charged with Arson 2nd degree and Burglary 2nd degree.
