Lottery set for DC residents' inauguration tickets

WASHINGTON -

The District of Columbia's representative in Congress is holding a lottery for tickets to President Barack Obama's second inauguration.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the city's representative, says she will hold the lottery Monday at noon in her office in Washington. Norton had initially planned to hold the drawing Friday.

Norton's office received more than 3,500 requests for tickets to the Jan. 21 inauguration. But she has fewer than 200 to distribute.

Norton's office says members of the National Guard will help her select the winners in a random drawing. Winners will be notified by phone.

Residents who want to watch the inauguration ceremony from the National Mall don't need a ticket, but those who want to be closer, on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, do need a ticket.
