COON RAPIDS, Minn. (KMSP) -
A wrong-way driver was struck and killed late Thursday night in Coon Rapids, Minn. after stopping his pickup truck in the middle of Highway 10.
The crash happened around 11:30 p.m., just beyond the Egret Blvd. overpass. According to the Anoka County sheriff's office, a 31-year-old East Bethel, Minn. man was pronounced dead at the scene after his truck was hit by another pickup.
The State Patrol identified the other driver as 62-year-old Edward Jelinek of Andover, Minn. The accident report said alcohol was detected on Jelinek at the scene.
Jelinek was treated and released from a local hospital.
NOTE: A previous version of this report stated Jelinek was the wrong-way driver. The initial report from the Minnesota State Patrol identified Jelinek as the driver of Vehicle 1, which was listed as the wrong-way vehicle by the State Patrol. A later report from the Anoka County sheriff's office correctly listed the East Bethel man as the wrong-way driver.
