The Coon Rapids Police Department has released video footage of a ring theft committed on Sunday inside the Kay Jewelry Store in the hopes that someone will recognize the culprit.
Police are thanking the public and the media for tips that came in and led to the arrest of a man who stole a ring from Kay Jewelers before the New Year, breaking an employee's finger in the process.
Officers say multiple sources directed them to the 23-year-old Matthew Kennedy, whose last known address was in Fridley. Officials say Kennedy has a lengthy arrest history on theft and related charges.
The victim whose finger was broken and several witnesses identified the man as the culprit during interviews with officers, and police also recovered clothes that are consistent with what was worn during the robbery.
Charges are pending as the Anoka County Attorney's Office reviews the case.
In announcing the arrest, police also thanked the various media organizations that shared video and stills associated with the robbery, adding that there was "no doubt" the exposure was a decisive factor in the arrest.
