Professors from double-dipping case leave Univ. of Minnesota

Posted: Updated:

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A faculty couple who were investigated for double-dipping salaries at two institutions has left the University of Minnesota.

The resignations of Francois Sainfort and Julie Jacko were announced by e-mail inside Minnesota's School of Public Health in recent days and confirmed by university officials Tuesday.

General Counsel Mark Rotenberg tells the Star Tribune the professors faced pending disciplinary charges at the time of their departure, but he couldn't give details because the two are no longer employees.

Sainfort and Jacko declined to comment on why they left or what they will do next.

Minnesota outbid Georgia Tech in 2007 to recruit the married couple for their potential to attract research funding, but it emerged that they were also under contract to Georgia Tech at the same time.
