MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -
Multiple hospitals in Minnesota are implementing visitor restrictions due to the high number of flu patients in the state. So far, no patient restrictions are in effect at Twin Cities metro hospitals.
Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, Minn., has restricted hospital visits to family only, with no more than two people at a time. No children under two years old are allowed, and children visiting new siblings in the birthing center will be let in on a child-by-child basis.
St. John's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital and Woodlands Hospital also have put similar restrictions in place.
Allina's New Ulm, Minn., location has restrictions of no more than two visitors, and no visitors who are currently sick or showing symptoms are allowed inside.
There are no restrictions at the Hennepin County Medical Center or at Regions Hospital yet; however, health officials urge anyone who is exhibiting flu-like symptoms to refrain from visiting patients.
In a single week, a total of 123 people were hospitalized with flu
symptoms in Minnesota. A map from the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention shows that the flu is widespread locally as well as in
several other states.
