Unclaimed diamond found in Moorhead parking lot returned to finder

Posted: Updated:

Police say a one-carat diamond found in a parking lot near a Little Caesar's Pizza location in Moorhead, Minn. hasn't been claimed by anyone. So it's finders keepers, in this case.

The oval diamond, appraised at $7,000, has been returned to the person who found it and turned it over to police last October.

The diamond has an identification number, but was never registered with the International Gemological Institute.

Police received some inquiries about the diamond, but the original owner could not be found.

"Even though this person wishes to remain anonymous to the public, his good faith efforts demonstrated another fine example of the character of the citizens of our community," Moorhead police said in a statement.
