Go to any emergency room right about now and you're likely to face an extra long wait. SoCal doctors and hospitals are seeing an onslaught of patients suffering from severe vomiting.
The culprit could be the wildly contagious norovirus.
Noroviruses are the bugs best known for vomiting outbreaks on cruise ships. Now it seems the virus is everywhere. On average, norovirus victims infect an average of seven people before they get well.
Some tips, courtesy of Dr. Mark Morocco from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center:
-- Transmitted by eating infected particles in food
-- People should not prepare food
-- Handwashing key to prevention (sing happy birthday twice while doing it)
-- Drug or vaccine stops it
-- IV fluids combat dehydration
