College student still missing

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Almost three weeks ago a Valley Stream, Long Island, college student was last seen alive in Jamaica, Queens. No one has heard from her since then.

Marisha Cheong's mother is hoping someone will recognize her picture and help bring her girl home.

Cheong, 23, lived in a home in Jamaica with her 26-year-old boyfriend, L.J. Balkaran, and his mother.

Police said that when she didn't come home on December 19, 2012, he reported her missing.

We tried to talk with him, but he would only say a few words and then moved behind the door. He said it has been a "nightmare." Balkaran told us he had to get dressed because police were coming to take him in for questioning.

So we waited for cops to show up, until the NYPD told us they would not be talking with him today.

Cheong's mother said that on the day her daughter disappeared, she'd had a fight with Balkaran and broke off their relationship. It was their fifth anniversary.

Police said Cheong is about 5 feet 3 inches and had her cell phone with her. Her mom told me it goes straight to voicemail.

If you've seen her or have any information, police would like you to call 800-577-TIPS.
