A deputy division commander at Fort Stewart has been promoted by the Army to the rank of brigadier general.
Brig. Gen. John H. Hort, previously a colonel, received his new rank during a ceremony Friday at the Army post in southeast Georgia. He serves at Fort Stewart as a deputy commander for the 3rd Infantry Division.
Hort's military career spans more than 27 years. Before coming to Fort Stewart he served two tours of duty in Iraq. On his last deployment Hort commanded an infantry brigade assigned to the 4th Infantry Division based at Fort Carson, Colo.
Located about 40 miles southeast of Savannah, Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River.
