A suburban Chicago high school history teacher has won a national award.
Joshua Bill of Waukegan High School has been named the 2012 National History Teacher of the Year. He was among five finalists for The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History's Award.
Bill receives $10,000 and traveled to New York in December when he was presented with the award.
The Illinois State Board of Education is a partner in the award program that is co-sponsored by the History Channel.
Superintendent of Education Christopher Koch says it's a prestigious honor that demonstrates Bill's ability to bring history to life for his students.
Bill has taught at Waukegan High School since 2004. In May, he was named Illinois History Teacher of the Year.
