CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces with a time of birth clocked at 12:08 a.m. is chubby cheeked Aydan Alvarado, the 2013 title-holder for the first baby born in Chicago.
Baby Aydan arrived into the world at Saint Anthony Hospital, 2875 W. 19th St., Chicago, to Georgina Acosta and Fernando Alvarado of Little Village. He has three big sisters ages 8, 4 and 2 years old waiting for him at home, Acosta said Tuesday.
"He sleeps a lot so far," Acosta said. "I'm just looking forward to watching him grow and finding out more about him."
Due on Dec. 29, Acosta said contractions started around 6 a.m. Monday.
"They just kept getting strong and stronger," she said. "In a way it was the most painful (birth) but the fastest at the same time."
Also greeting the early moments of 2013 were:
• Hope Fiddan, born at 12:13 a.m. at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates.
• Jacklyn Herrara, born at 12:23 a.m. at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The 2013 crop of New Year's babies didn't come quite as close to midnight as previous years. Last year, two babies were born at two Chicago-area hospitals within 1/10th of a second of midnight. In 2011, a baby girl was born at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 12:00:01 a.m.
