DETROIT (WJBK) -- Friday morning, customers arrived to the CVS store at the corner of East Warren and Mack Avenue and found the building damaged and the parking lot blocked.

"I called the pharmacy once I saw the tape up and they said to come back in 30 minutes.  They're having a parking lot issue," said Angel Stewart.

I guess you could say the issue started in the parking lot.  It was around 7:15 when a van crashed into the side of the building, then a couple of people wearing ski masks ran into the store, tried to grab the ATM and drag it outside, but they couldn't get it out of the store, so they took off.

"You couldn't pay me to walk in this store," said Danny Fatseas.

He lives nearby and said criminals often target the popular drug store and its customers.

"They pull in here.  They smash and grab.  They knock windows out.  They stick people up at gunpoint.  We've called.  We've called.  We've called.  Put a security guard in the parking lot.  Corporate says they can't afford it.  Sad."

Does it make Stewart uneasy to shop there?

"It does because what if I was in the store at the time.  That's really dangerous."

Early Christmas Day, security cameras captured two bold thieves stealing an ATM from inside the Hollywood Coney Island while the place was open.
It took them less than two minutes to knock it off its foundation and drag it out of the restaurant.

In both cases, the crooks got away before police could catch them.

"Thank God no one was hurt.  That's the main thing.  You can always replace the machine and the money, but you can't replace people," Fatseas said.

Detroit Police told us the four suspects involved in the CVS ATM robbery attempt did manage to get away with an unknown amount of money.

Sources also told us that Detroit Police are looking into the possibility that those behind this attempted robbery maybe responsible for similar incidents that happened this past week.

CVS had no comment.
