HALL COUNTY, Ga. -

A former Hall County jailer has been arrested after a GBI inquiry determined he used excessive force against an inmate.

Dustin Charlton was arrested Wednesday on charges of Simple Battery and one count of Violation of Oath of Office.

FOX 5 News first reported on the investigation back in September when was released from his jailer position. The Hall County Sheriff's Office determined in an internal investigation that Charlton struck a hand-cuffed inmate in the head with his hand.

Charlton was also the subject of a 2010 investigation into a similar incident in which he struck an inmate. He was suspended for five days without pay for his actions in that incident, according to authorities.

He was released Thursday from the Hall County Jail on $15,000 bond.
