The father of the 2-year-old who was fatally shot by his 4-year-old brother earlier this month was charged with second-degree manslaughter and endangerment of a child on Thursday. Both charges are felonies.
Kao Xiong, was home for lunch with his wife and three children when he heard a gun shot and knew it came from the pistol he kept in a holster under his pillow.
Xiong rushed upstairs to find his son Neegnco bleeding from his stomach. Despite calling 911 and trying to perform CPR, the boy died in the ambulance on the scene.
Police found seven other guns in the home, including a handgun in a diaper bag and long guns without safeties despite children ranging in age from one to five years old living in the home.
Investigators say Xiong had the guns for hunting; however, it is illegal in Minnesota to leave any weapon where a child may find and access it.
