A substitute teacher in Bloomington is under arrest after several students claimed she hit them last week. Now, prosecutors are trying to figure out if what the kids are saying merits misdemeanor assault charges.
A substitute teacher who was accused of hitting, scratching and even choking students at Oak Grove Elementary School is now facing charges.
Several fifth grade students accused 59-year-old Laura Avery of becoming physical against them after cursing at them in class earlier this week.
After going to the police station for an interview, Avery was arrested on Tuesday. Now, prosecutors have charged her with one count of malicious punishment of a child and one count of tampering with a witness.
Avery has worked as a substitute in the Bloomington School District since 2003.
