
Nine workers were hospitalized Thursday after chemical fumes forced the evacuation of the Sanmina plant in Turtle Lake, Wis.
The spill happened around 12:30 p.m. at the Sanmina plant on Industrial Ave. Barron County and Polk County deputies, firefighters and paramedics all responded to the scene.
Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said three chemicals were mixed together, producing fumes. He said 60 employees were evacuated, and nine were taken to a hospital with minor respiratory problems.
As a precaution, residents of an assisted living facility and another local business were evacuated.
Sanmina manufactures LED lighting for retail. The Turtle Lake plant produces die-cast models and plastic parts.
Turtle Lake is off Highway 8, just across the Minnesota border, between St. Croix Falls, Wis. and Rice Lake, Wis.
