With no one to object and potentially intercept their marriage, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder married ESPN reporter Samantha Steele on Monday during the Vikings off day.
Wednesday morning, Steele tweeted "Twitter is so tricky. Who knew that "she's pregnant" & "they'll be divorced soon" are just the 2012 version of "congrats"! Thx guys!"
Months removed from the engagement, a report in the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram stated the two were married in a Hudson, Wis., courthouse Monday afternoon. Ponder confirmed the two were engaged on December 4th.
Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier on Monday said he knew the marriage on was Ponder's radar and "he got it done." Frazier said he didn't take issue with the timing.
The Vikings have two games remaining and are still very much in the hunt for a playoff spot. Ponder has come under fire from fans and media about the timing of the announcement and now the marriage.
In his first full season as the starting quarterback, Ponder has thrown for 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and has a 78.6 quarterback rating, which is 25th in the NFL.
